５人目のキッカー、カルドソが決勝のゴールを決めると、歓喜の輪を抜けだし、１人のパラグアイ選手が駒野に駆け寄り、額をすりつけるようにして何かを語りかけた。自身４人目のキッカーとして落ち着いてゴール中央にＰＫを決めたアエドバルデスだった。おそらくスペイン語だったのだろう。駒野は何を言われているのか分からないはずだが、しきりにうなづいていた。気持ちは通じていたのだろう。
一番長く駒野の肩を抱いていたのは、松井だった。そして駒野以上に泣いていた。何も言わず、しゃくり上げ、ただただ肩を抱き続けていたようにみえた。そして逆の肩を、阿部が抱いた。
サポーターへのあいさつに駒野を背を押していざなったのは、稲本だった。努めて笑顔だった。駒野は笑顔を返すことはできなかった。それでも稲本は笑みを送り続けた。
ロッカ−ルームに引き上げ、ミックスゾーンに姿をみせた駒野は、無言でうつむき、報道陣の前を通り過ぎた。バッジオが、バレジも味わったＰＫ戦の残酷。だが多くの仲間に支えられ、駒野は立ち直らなくてはならない。
